Frequently Asked Questions

From agent requirements to license information, review answers to frequently asked questions.

Accident & Sickness licensed agents who plan to sell on-Exchange health or dental insurance plans or Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) plans can sell on Georgia Access. Georgia Access is not relevant to certified agents who sell other types of insurance, including those who sell Life & Annuity Insurance, Property & Casualty Insurance, and/or Medicare.

All certified agents must activate a profile on the Georgia Access agent portal to receive commissions, regardless of which portal they choose to use for consumer enrollment.

Note: Certified agents may establish appointments with multiple web brokers and/or insurance companies and can also use the Georgia Access agent portal for enrollment. Agents must obtain these appointments within 15 days of the sale of an insurance product.

Agents must obtain documented consent from the consumer or the consumer’s authorized representative before accessing, collecting, using, or disclosing any Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This requirement applies to all enrollment assistance, whether provided through the Georgia Access Agent Portal or an approved Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE) Partner platform.

Written Consent Requirements

Agents must obtain written consent using Georgia Access Consumer Consent language before assisting a consumer with any eligibility or enrollment activities.

Recorded Verbal Consent Requirements

If written consent is not immediately obtainable, agents may use recorded verbal consent, provided it includes all elements listed below.

  • Date of consent
  • Name of the consumer or authorized representative
  • Name of the assisting agent
  • Agent’s National Producer Number (NPN)
  • A description of enrollment assistance being provided (e.g., plan selection, enrollment changes, etc.)
  • If the consumer does not explicitly authorize agency-wide access, consent applies only to the named agent.

Recorded verbal consent must not be used as a routine substitute for written consent and is valid only if documented fully and in accordance with this policy.

The Georgia Access Consumer Consent form is available in English and Spanish. The forms are available HERE.

State of Georgia Accident and Sickness licenses must be renewed every two years. After an agent’s State of Georgia Accident and Sickness License expires, they are granted a 15-day grace period during which the agent is still able to sell plans on Georgia Access. After the 15-day grace period ends, the agent is suspended from selling plans on Georgia Access and will not be able to receive commissions until they obtain an active Accident and Sickness license.

Please visit the Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire (OCI) website to renew your license or to submit a new license application.
